Story: Emmanuel Ashong and Sarah Naa Merley Mensah

The Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo has reminded ministers of the Church of their calling to address injustice in society.

Speaking at the ordination of Methodist ministers held at the Wesley Cathedral, Asafoatse Nettey Road, Accra, the head of the Methodist Church charged the newly ordained ministers to rise to their responsibility towards the vulnerable in society, adding “God has called you into ministry to enrich lives”.

He explained that an enriched life was a life of holiness that takes after Jesus’ example. Most Rev Dr Boafo charged the newly ordained ministers not to engage in “fake gymnastic fantasies” but rather save souls and bring them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

In all, 46 new candidates were ordained for ministry in the Ghana Methodist Conference at separate Church Services held at the Accra Wesley Cathedral, the Mt Olivet Methodist Chapel, Dansoman, and The Rev Joseph Thomas Clegg Memorial Methodist Chapel, Kaneshie. A Methodist minister is considered to be in full connexion with the Church after his/her ordination following a 3 year probational period as a Deacon.

The minister among others exercises pastoral and administrative duties of a Methodist Society and is responsible for the spiritual growth of his/her congregation.
