Story: Sarah Naa Merley Mensah & Emmanuel Ashong, Abeka

The Accra Diocesan Women’s Fellowship of The Methodist Church Ghana has a new Chaplain. This follows the induction of the Very Rev Mrs Trudy Wright as the new Chaplain of the Fellowship at an Induction Service held in Accra.

The Service, which came off at the Redemption Methodist Chapel, Abeka on May 28, 2023, was officiated by the Methodist Bishop of Accra Diocese, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey. He was assisted by the Lay Chairman and Synod Secretary of the Accra Diocese, Bro Joseph Eduam, and the Very Rev Mrs Doris A. Saah, respectively.

Inducting the new Chaplain into office, the Rt Rev Borlabi Bortey, called on her to “preach the Word of God and diligently discharge the duties of a Chaplain” in accordance with the ordination vows of The Methodist Church Ghana.

The new Chaplain was decorated with the badge of the Women’s Fellowship by the Immediate Past Connexional Secretary of the Fellowship, Sis Grace Amonoo, in the company of some Diocesan Officers of the Fellowship.

The Very Rev Mrs Wright was thankful for the new role assigned her and expressed readiness to serve. She takes over from the Very Rev Mrs Doris A. Saah, who was elevated to the position of the first female Synod Secretary of the Accra Diocese in October 2022 after serving as Chaplain from 2018 – 2022.

The new Chaplain has served the Methodist Church in various capacities and is presently the Superintendent Minister of the Abeka Circuit.

The Women’s Fellowship seeks to, among others, bring women in the Church together and empower them for soul winning. The Chaplain is expected to guide the Fellowship in deepening the spiritual wellbeing and growth of members.

The Induction Service was witnessed by Sis Christiana Aku Odoi, a Past Lay Chairman of the Accra Diocese; Sis Henrietta Angmor, the Vice Chairman of the Accra Diocesan Lay Movement Council; the Rev Samuel Ampofo, a Circuit Minister in Abeka Circuit, and Sis Rebecca Nettey, the Accra Diocesan Coordinator for Gender and Social Intervention.

Also present were some past and present Connexional Officers of the Women’s Fellowship, incumbent and past Diocesan Officers, as well as representatives of other Diocesan Organisations.

Funds were raised to support activities of the Women’s Fellowship.
