RT REV BORLABI BORTEY TAKES OFFICE AS NEW METHODIST BISHOP OF ACCRA

The Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey has effective today, October 01, 2021, taken office as the new Methodist Bishop of Accra Diocese.

 

He takes over from the Rt Rev Samuel Kofi Osabutey whose 6-year tenure of office as Diocesan Bishop came to an end on September 30, 2021.

 

The Methodist Church Ghana at its 11th Biennial/49th Conference held in October 2020 at the Wesley Cathedral, Accra, duly endorsed the election of the Rt Rev Borlabi Bortey as the new Bishop to lead the Church in the Accra Diocese.

 

Bishop Borlabi Bortey comes to his new position with several years of service to the Church in various capacities the last being, Superintendent Minister of the Gbawe McCarthy Hill Circuit in the Northern Accra Diocese.

 

Speaking at a Service held at the Mt Olivet Methodist Chapel, Dansoman, on Friday, October 01, 2021 to hand over the pastoral and administrative leadership of the Diocese to him, Bishop Borlabi Bortey said that, “It’s not by our wisdom but we trust that as we allow the Holy Spirit Himself to work in us, through us and with us, and we all coming together as a team…., He [God] will grant further success”.

 

The Immediate Past Bishop, Rt Rev Osabutey presented his handing over notes to his successor and in a homily, admonished members to “Be mindful of our divisions and celebrate our differences”, adding “We must see ourselves as God’s field”. He called for support for the new Bishop, whom he described as a “Solid Christian believer”.

 

The Accra Diocese is one of 20 Dioceses forming The Methodist Church Ghana with a membership of 54,768 as at July 2020.

 

The new Bishop will be formally inducted into office on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at the Wesley Cathedral, Accra by the Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo who is also the Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana.
