RESURRECTION METHODIST CLIMAXES 60TH ANNIVERSARY WITH THANKSGIVING SERVICE

Story: Sarah Naa Merley Mensah & Emmanuel Ashong, Kpeehe

What started as a small Christian fellowship between a couple, Mr J. T. Krofi and Mrs Comfort Hagan Krofi and their neighbours, Mr Daniel Quainoo and Madam Elizabeth Dadzie at Accra New Town on March 18, 1962, has today grown into what is now known as the Resurrection Methodist Church, Kpeehe.

In what appears to be a fulfillment of the tenets of the Holy Book in Matthew 18:20 - "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them", the four founding members set-off the 60 year journey of a Church with a present numerical strength of over 800 members.

The Society which had its name changed from New Town Methodist Church, B Section to the Methodist Church of The Resurrection, Kpeehe in 1994, is presently the head of the Kpeehe Circuit with Covenant Society, Alajo and Tesano Nursery Society as the other Societies in the Circuit.

Members took to the Resurrection Methodist Chapel at Kpeehe in Accra on Sunday, September 11, 2022 to climax the Church’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations with a Thanksgiving Service, attended by past and serving clergy and lay leaders of the Church.

Preaching on the theme “The Works of the Faithfuls and its Impact on the Present Day Generation”, the Immediate Past Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev Titus Awotwi Pratt paid glowing tribute to the pioneer members of the Church and challenged the younger generation to emulate their example and disciple others for Christ.

He was of the conviction that every disciple of Christ represents something – “Some stand for death, others sorrows and others, discomfort” explaining, “Christians who apply the teachings of Christ do not have it all rosy. You must go through some afflictions”.

Touching on church growth, Most Rev Awotwi Pratt appealed to members to provide financial support towards the advancement of the Church noting, "We have vowed to give Him our all”. He emphasized baptism, intentional evangelism and discipleship as key to living a transformed life in Jesus Christ which he believes leads to sustainable church growth.

Present at the Thanksgiving Service was a Past Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev Dr Robert Aboagye-Mensah, the Immediate Past Methodist Bishop of Kumasi Diocese, the Rt Rev Christopher Nyarko Andam who represented the Bishop of Accra, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey as well as some Directors at the Conference Office.

The Superintendent Minister of the Kpeehe Circuit, the Very Rev Joseph Odei Afrifa led congregants to pray for the Church. Funds were raised to support the Church’s activities.
