LET YOUR JOY AT CHRISTMAS BE ABOUT JESUS, NOT GIFTS – CHRISTIANS TOLD

Story: Emmanuel Ashong, Accra

Christians have been reminded on the need to focus on Jesus as the true source of joy in the Christmas season.

The call was made by the Methodist Bishop of Accra Diocese, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey at a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols organised by the Diocese on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Dansoman in Accra.

Bishop Borlabi Bortey was of the view that the source of joy at Christmas ought not to be about Christmas parcels, buying latest dresses, or painting houses, stressing “The excitement should be because God has been good to you”.

According to him, "The Christmas story is simple - a Saviour has been born for us. And who is this Saviour? He’s the Messiah. He is the Christos and He is also the Lord. He is the Saviour of the world and He is the Lord of the whole world”. “The Gospel message is simple – believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved”, Bishop Borlabi Bortey added.

The event which also marked the annual end of year get-together of the Accra Diocese brought together Methodist supernumerary Ministers in the Diocese and their spouses, members of the Diocesan Standing Committee, staff of the Diocesan Secretariat among others.

The Accra Diocesan Choir and the Diocesan Secretariat Choir sung Christmas carols amid the reading of Bible lessons on the yuletide season.
