GOD HAS CALLED YOU TO SERVE - LAY CHAIRMAN TO NEW OFFICERS
Posted on Thursday November 24, 2022Story: Emmanuel Ashong, Kokomlemle
The
Lay Chairman of the Accra Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana, Bro Joseph Eduam
has told newly inducted officers of the Diocesan Lay Movement Council that they
have been called to serve.
“God
has called you to serve. Don’t ever tell yourself that you have been called to
the position of executive member because of your knowledge. It is by grace, not
your own abilities”, Bro Eduam stressed.
Bro
Eduam was speaking at an Induction Service for the new Diocesan Officers held at
the Bethel Methodist Chapel, Kokomlemle on November 20, 2022. The Service also served
as a Thanksgiving Service following his induction as Lay Chairman of the Accra Diocese
on October 30, 2022 at the St Paul Cathedral, Tema.
Delivering
a sermon on the theme, “A Life Marked by Humility and Level-headedness”, Bro Eduam
charged the newly inducted officers to eschew pride noting, “If you decide to
harden your heart and become proud, God will take the position from you”.
According
to him, “As Christians, we have a mark that distinguishes us from other people”
adding, “There is an enemy called pride that comes after we gain a high
position”. He therefore advised Christians to learn from Jesus’ example of humility,
pray and study the Word of God to guide against pride.
The
newly inducted officers are Sis Henrietta Angmor, Vice Chairman; Bro Emmanuel
Effah-Dennis, Secretary; Bro Samuel Nii Kpakpa Quartey Jnr, Assistant Secretary
and Bro Gabriel Edzakerh, Treasurer. The rest are Bro Isaac Mensah, Organiser; Sis
Monica Owusu, Assistant Organiser, Sis Deborah Naa Lamley Cobblah, Executive Member;
and Bro Cephas Essiful-Ansah Esq., Executive Member.
They
will be expected to support the Lay Chairman in mobilising lay members to
assist in the implementation of the Church’s decisions at the Diocesan level
and to coordinate the work of the various organisations within the Church.
Immediate
past officers of the Diocesan Lay Movement Council were recognised for their services
to the Church.
The
Service was officiated by the Methodist Bishop of Accra, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi
Bortey, assisted by the Very Rev Mrs Doris Saah, the Synod Secretary of the Accra
Diocese. Also present were past and serving Ministers and lay officers of the Church
at the Connexional, Diocesan, Circuit and Society levels.
