A ceremony has been held
in Accra on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 to lay the foundation stone of the
Accra Diocesan Office Annex.
The project which
commenced in July 2020 is an extension to the existing facility which has served
as the official working space for the Bishop and staff of the Accra Diocese
since 2004.
Laying the foundation
stone for the two-storey facility, the Methodist Bishop of Accra, the Rt Rev
Samuel Kofi Osabutey noted that it was in fulfillment of a comprehensive plan
dating back to the early 2000s when he served as the first Synod Secretary of
the Accra Diocese.
He recounted that the
idea to put up the facility was mooted during the tenure of the first Bishop of
the Diocese, the Rt Rev Samuel Kwami Hodasi, with Sis Gladys Afarchoe Odoi as
the Lay Chairman.
When completed, the
facility will among others, have office spaces for the Diocesan Executive, and some
Diocesan officers, an 80-seater capacity conference room as well as offices for
the various Diocesan organisations.
Bishop Osabutey prayed for
God's protective hands over workers at the construction site.
Giving a briefing on the
project, the Accra Diocesan Development Officer, Bro Festus Odametey disclosed
that the project which is 50% complete, had construction halted for over three
months due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and other unforeseen
circumstances.
The project contractor, Engineer
Kwesi Dan-Nyame, assured that work was progressing steadily and will be
completed on the revised schedule.
The short ceremony was
witnessed by serving and past officers of the Diocese including the Lay
Chairman, Sis Agatha Ennin Osei and the Synod Secretary, the Very Rev Victor B.
B. Boyetey. Also present were staffs of
the Diocesan Office as well as representatives from the various Circuits and
Diocesan organisations.
