ACTIVE SHARING OF OUR FAITH SHOULD BECOME OUR DNA - METHODISTS TOLD

Story: Emmanuel Ashong, Bubiashie

Diocesan Methodists have been charged to seize every opportunity to actively share their faith with others.

“Let every Methodist confidently share his faith with his neighbours and friends everywhere – in the home, in the community, in the workplace, in the commuter bus, wherever the opportunity presents itself. This is what amounts to total mobilization of every member for total evangelization.”

This was the charge of the Methodist Bishop of Accra Diocese, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey at the official opening of the 62nd Annual Synod of the Diocese which was held at the Mt Ararat Methodist Chapel, Bubiashie – Accra.

In an address delivered to members of the Synod comprising lay and clergy drawn from all the 24 Circuits in the Diocese, on Thursday, April 27, 2023, Rt Rev Borlabi Bortey articulated that “every member should be equipped to be a witness. Active sharing of our faith should become our DNA – the identifying mark of every Methodist.”

To him, “one-on-one witnessing is perhaps the most effective soul winning tool available to us,” stressing “the Church exists to make or produce Christians. That is our core business.”

The Methodist Bishop touched on various aspects of the Church’s life in an address entitled “Towards Implementing the Agenda for Revival, Transformation and Growth”. Highlighting the importance of the children and youth ministries, he proposed various reforms the Church ought to consider to ensure effective targeting of these groups. He highlighted various socio-political and economic issues of concern to the Church and called for action by the state and other stakeholders.

Hosted by the Bubiashie Circuit at the Mt Ararat Methodist Chapel, Bubiashie from April 26-30, 2023, this year’s Synod is on the theme “Discipleship: Living the Transformed Life in Jesus Christ”.

Synod is the highest decision-making body in a Methodist Diocese that among others, “take stock of how we have progressed since we last met and to project the way forward for us to make progress in our ministry as a Church”, Bishop Borlabi Bortey explained.

Representatives from sister Methodist Dioceses, other churches, ecumenical bodies, and traditional authorities attended the official opening ceremony and wished the Diocese well in their deliberations.
