ACCRA DIOCESE MOBILISES SUPPORT FOR METHODIST DEVELOPMENT FUND

The
Accra Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana has held a special fund raising
Service to mobilise support for the Methodist Development Fund [MDF].
The
Fund which was established over a decade ago is aimed at mobilising resources
for church growth as well as providing support for underprivileged Societies
and Methodist institutions in the Connexion.
MDF
has over the years supported the construction of manses, places of worship, rehabilitation
of Methodist educational institutions, maintenance of health facilities and
church planting activities. The Fund has spent a total of GHS 3,464,928 on
various projects in 2022.
As
part of efforts to create awareness and mobilise support for the Fund, special
fund raising Services are organised annually across the Connexion.
This
year's connexional event which is the fourteenth edition, took place at the
Calvary Methodist Cathedral, Wenchi in the Wenchi Diocese of The Methodist Church
Ghana on November 27, 2022.
The
Accra Diocesan MDF Awareness Day and Special Fund Raising Service came-off at
the Bread of Life Methodist Chapel, Dansoman on November 27, 2022 with the
Diocesan Bishop, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey as the chief officiant.
Congregants
at the Society were joined by officials from the Accra Diocese as well as
representatives from the 24 Circuits within the Diocese.
In
a message read on his behalf by the Accra Diocesan Lay Chairman, the Presiding
Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo noted
that, "This year 2022 has particularly been a difficult year for
everybody" and urged members to "make time to reflect on the
faithfulness of God to the Church and the impact that the Fund [MDF] has made
in our effort to build a strong Methodist Church and institutions in Ghana".
Touching
on the theme for this year's event, "Discipleship: Living the Transformed
Life in Jesus Christ", Most Rev Dr Boafo said, "Living the
Transformed Life in Jesus should strengthen our resolve to build on the rich
and enviable history of the Methodist Church as being a leading evangelical
force in our nation's holistic development".
He
disclosed that "the Methodist Development Fund will continue to be the key
in our mobilisation strategies" towards the Church’s agenda.
The
Synod Secretary of the Accra Diocese, the Very Rev Mrs Doris Saah, led a fund
raising exercise that realised GHS 22,000 from congregants.
Similar
Fund Raising Services were held in all Societies with the Diocese and across
the Connexion.
