The Abossey Okai
Methodist Basic School in the Ablekuma Central Municipality of the Greater
Accra Region has emerged the Best Performing Public School in the 2020 Basic
Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Municipality.
This is the second consecutive
time the School is winning the award following a similar feat in the year 2019.
The School was presented with a
plaque in recognition of their performance by the Ablekuma Central Municipal
Assembly as part the Municipality’s celebration of the 65th
Independence Day Anniversary of Ghana organised on 6th March, 2022.
Located at the heart of Abossey
Okai, a suburb of Accra famously known for scrap dealership, the Abossey Okai
Methodist Basic School was established in 1934 by The Methodist Church Ghana in
partnership with the Abossey Okai community. The Junior High School (JHS)
department was added in 2008 under its founding Headteacher, Mrs Patience
Patricia Amelorku.
Presenting the award to the leadership
of the Accra Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Greater Accra Regional
Manager of Methodist Schools, Mrs Christina A. Adjei in the company of the
Headteacher of the School, Mrs Vivien Richardson praised the pupils for their
performance.
The Methodist Bishop of Accra, the Rt Rev Emmanuel
Borlabi Bortey who received the plaque on behalf of the Diocese, thanked God
for the recognition and advised the pupils to “justify the position that you have
chalked” adding, “It means more hard work because all eyes will be on you”. He
commended the teachers for their effort and noted “the feat should be a
challenge to Methodist Schools” in other Districts across the connexion.
Also present at the presentation
ceremony were the Synod Secretary of the Accra Diocese, the Very Rev Victor B.
B. Boyetey, educationist and Superintendent Minister of Nungua Circuit, the
Very Rev George K. Affum, some staff of the Methodist Education Unit in the Greater
